Kleman - an authentic French shoemaker

Shoemaker and bootmaker by trade, René Cléon joined the French Army during World War II. Taken as a german prisoner in 1940 during the Battle of France, René Cléon spent 5 years in captivity in Germany. During this time he continued to model small leather shoes in his spare time. Hoping to be back to his homeland France, the idea of launching his own shoe manufacturing workshop was gradually growing.

At the end of the war in 1945 and in the weeks following his return, he formed a team of apprentices and bought his first stitching and assembly machines. The Kleman story began in the family home in La Romagne. When the business was growing significantly, Cléon built his first factory. In the 1970s and 1980s Cléons' sons, Jacques and Louis-Marie took over business.

In 1988, the KLEMAN label (contraction of Cléon Manufacture) was officially launched and Cléon became a major supplier for several French public administrations which trusted his know-how and high-quality shies and boots. The company wins increasingly large tenders; first to shoeing the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer [the French national railway company], Air France, the French Customs, multiple fire departments and even the French army.

Initially reserved for trades seeking security, sturdiness and quality, most of the iconic Kleman styles include the ISO EN-20347 standard and thus enable an additional guarantee thanks to anti-slip, abrasion resistance, and the innocuousness of materials. The manufacturing of all products remains exclusively carried out in France in the workshop in Anjou.

KLEMAN shoes and boots never were overcomed by fashion trends, offering a raw and authentic style. Kleman footwear will charm men who seek a certain efficiency in a pure and uncompromising style.

The Padror, Oxal and Tonnant models and other references of the range have remained unchanged since the 1980s. A sober and functional workboot and casual shoe which now dresses quality lovers around the world.

In regards of environmental respect, Kleman is committed to create eco-friendly production procedures in the process of manufacturing shoes. European origin of all leathers and production in France reduce CO2 emissions significantly.
