The Story of Fil Noir starts 1889 in the little, tuscany town Certaldo. After the sudden death of the Manzini Brothers father, Luca and Lorenzo took over the family run business. With no more than 5 tailors they produced mens underwear to sell it in the near Florence and Milan. Lorenzo starts to push the company international and soon Manzini is a well known name far across Italy frontiers. With increasing success the stage is set for the first Manzini shirt collection and Lorenzo travels all over Europe with his suitcase full of samples of his exclusive shirts. Skilled craftsmanship, selected cotton and fine details at an affordable price guarantee growing success and sales. In 1899 the Manzini Brothers have more than 75 employees and deliver to 120 customers al over Europe.
An earthquake puts all the Manzini Brothers work at risk. The plants of the only two italian yarn manufacturers were destroyed, while the production was fully booked and no yarn was available. The Manzinis had to improvise and took the only available yarn. Shinning white shirts were delivered with black contrast seams. The shirts were an immediate success, as they fitted excellent to dark business suits. The Manzini Fil Noir shirts became famous and the signature of the collection.
After WWI and WWII the Manzini inheritors assigned an german manufacturer to continue the Fil Noir line. The contract included the Manzini values: traditional craftsmanship, exclusive fabrics and heart for detail are MUST for a Fil Noir collection, every Fil Noir Vintage shirt shows a black, left side seam, a hommage to the courageous Manzini brothers.
The genuine idea of the founders is still continued consequently. All Fil Noir shirts are made from exclusive fabrics in Europe. All garments are sourced from renowned, italian weaving mills like Albini, Canclini and Monti. Further signatures of the collection are contemporary fits, decent patterns, classic stripes and checks. Enormous attention is spent to details and finish. Each Fil Noir shirt is washed to reach the original Manzini Vintage Character.
